Nodefly
vNodefly is another vancouver based startup working out of bootup labs. I was referred to the nodefly team by fellow bootupers Contractually.
When I first met with the team at Nodefly, it looked like they were begining a major overhaul of the entire application, and a totally new look and feel would be a big part of the upgrade.

Their current site feels a bit outdated and definitely out of sync with the high level of technology that the service delivers. After a couple of meetings and discussions with the team we decided to go with a retro sci-fi feel, but give that look a modern twist. For this project I would make some small tweaks to their visual identity and provide the design basis for a total re-design of the service.

Typographically I opted for the Eurostile typeface, which really gives the design it's retro sci-fi feel. I also opted to utilize a fair amount of texture, which gives the design a lot of depth and plays off some of the metallic finishes and fabrics of classic sci-fi. I also opted to use a really bright color scheme to give the design some pop.
the design palette was largely inspired by vintage electronics from the 1970's and 80's.Particularly yamaha stereo components from the mid to late 70's. Brushed aluminum and those gorgeous glowing interfaces both helped inspire this design.
The teal and orange glows of classic computer interfaces always spring to mind when thinking of sci-fi.

Overall the new design is a huge step forward, and the new sci-fi feel will surely resonate with the service's very techie users. The client was really excited to implement the new look and feel using the html and css that I also developed for them. Currently the application is undergoing a major overhaul and should be up and running with the new look shortly.
