Guttersnipe is a local news site which covers everything the modern pop-culture junkie needs to know. The client approached me to do a major overhaul of this Vancouver scenester staple.

One of the major reasons for the site's new look and feel is that the previous version of the site required a ton of graphics work for each post. So upgrading to Wordpress 3.0 and utilizing the new built-in thumbnailing systems takes away the headache for the authors.

Pushing to both increase traffic levels and advertising revenue for the site was also a major part of of the re-build. As such, incorporating more ad-space and making the content more digestable were high priorities in the design process.

The other major component of the site upgrade was a light, fresh new look. The old site utilized very heavy ornate victorian graphics. My first thought with the new site is to let the fantastic photography on the site speak for itself with a much cleaner look and feel.

The new design uses elegant typography with strong illustrative icons and a bold highlight  color.

The new site has been a big success, with positive feedback from users and steadily increasing traffic levels. Guttersnipe is also now participating in national advertising campaigns brining new revenue to the site. Overall the client could not be happier with the results of this total overhaul to a popular local site.
